Endoscopy techs don’t get enough credit. You’re in the procedure room every day running scopes, turning over rooms, and keeping the workflow tight, and most staffing agencies barely know your specialty exists. That’s not the case at Junxion Med Staffing. We know what travel endoscopy tech work actually looks like, and we’ve got contracts that reflect your skills.

Junxion was founded by a traveling surgical tech, someone who spent years in procedure rooms and knows what it’s like to be placed by an agency that doesn’t understand your role. We built Junxion to be the opposite of that. Real recruiters, real support, and contracts that actually match what you do.

Why Travel as an Endoscopy Tech?

Honestly, if you’re working staff at a single GI lab, you’re doing the same scopes with the same docs on the same schedule every week. Travel shakes that up. New facilities mean new equipment, new physicians, and new challenges that keep you sharp. And the pay? It’s a serious step up from what most staff endo techs are making.

Travel endoscopy tech is also one of the more underrated specialties in allied travel. Demand is steady because every hospital and ambulatory surgery center needs endo techs, but there aren’t enough experienced ones willing to travel. That’s good news for you. It means facilities are competing for your skills, and that competition shows up in your paycheck.

What Travel Endoscopy Tech Pros Actually Do

Your day revolves around the GI suite. You’re assisting physicians during upper endoscopies, colonoscopies, ERCPs, and other GI procedures. You’re setting up the scope, positioning the patient, managing the tech side during the procedure, and handling reprocessing after. Room turnover speed matters, busy GI labs can run 15-20 cases a day, and you’re the one keeping that machine moving.

As a traveler, you’ll need to adapt fast to each facility’s specific scopes (Olympus, Pentax, Fuji, they all have quirks), their reprocessing protocols, and their documentation systems. The techs who do well in travel are the ones who can walk into any GI lab and figure out the workflow within the first shift or two. If that sounds like you, you’re going to do great.

Endoscopy Tech Travel Pay: What to Expect

Endoscopy tech travel pay has been climbing as demand increases and facilities struggle to fill positions locally. Here’s what the current market looks like:

  • Average weekly pay: $1,834/week
  • Typical range: $1,500 – $2,200/week
  • Top-paying areas: Illinois, Texas, and Arizona tend to have the strongest endo tech contracts
  • Premium rates: Facilities with high procedure volumes or hard-to-fill locations pay at the top of the range
  • Stipends: Housing and meal stipends are included on top of your taxable rate

Pay varies by facility, shift, and experience level.

Requirements & Certifications

Endo tech credentialing is a little different than some other allied specialties. Here’s what facilities typically require:

  • SGNA certification: Preferred by most facilities. The Certified Gastroenterology Technician (CGET) credential from SGNA gives you a competitive edge
  • BLS certification: Required everywhere, no exceptions
  • Scope reprocessing training: Experience with high-level disinfection and current reprocessing protocols is essential
  • Experience: 1-2 years minimum in an endoscopy setting, facilities want someone who can run the room, not learn on the job
  • Sedation monitoring: Some facilities want moderate sedation experience or certification, especially for procedures without anesthesia support

Why Junxion for Endoscopy Tech Assignments?

Most big agencies lump endo techs in with “other allied” and hand you off to a recruiter who doesn’t know the difference between an ERCP and a colonoscopy. Junxion doesn’t work that way. Our founder came out of the procedural world, and that shapes how we recruit for every specialty, including endoscopy.

When you work with Junxion, your recruiter knows what questions to ask about procedure volume, scope brands, reprocessing setup, and case mix. We’re not going to place you at a facility that does 8 scopes a day when you’re used to running 20. That mismatch wastes everyone’s time, and we don’t do it.

We also handle the compliance and credentialing grind so you don’t have to chase paperwork between cases. Your safety and your time matter to us. That’s not marketing, it’s how we keep travelers coming back.

FAQs About Travel Endoscopy Tech Jobs

Do I need my SGNA certification to travel?

Not always, but it helps a lot. Some facilities accept equivalent experience in lieu of the CGET credential, especially if you’ve got 2+ years in a high-volume GI lab. That said, having the cert opens more doors and usually means better pay. If you’re thinking about getting certified, your Junxion recruiter can point you to resources.

Will I only work in hospital GI labs?

Not at all. Travel endo tech contracts come from hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and standalone GI clinics. ASCs tend to have faster-paced schedules with higher case volumes, while hospital-based labs may include more complex procedures like ERCPs. We’ll find contracts that match what you’re looking for.

What’s the biggest adjustment for first-time endo travelers?

Honestly? Scope brands and reprocessing protocols. Every facility has their own setup, and the differences between Olympus and Pentax scopes alone can throw you off on day one. The techs who adjust fastest are the ones who’ve worked with multiple scope brands and aren’t locked into one reprocessing workflow. If you’ve only worked with one brand, mention that to your recruiter, we’ll find a facility that matches.

How long are typical endoscopy tech contracts?

Standard is 13 weeks. Some facilities offer 8-week contracts, and extensions are common if you’re a good fit. High-volume GI labs especially tend to extend, once they’ve got an endo tech who can keep up with their schedule, they don’t want to let you go. Extensions often come with a rate increase too.

Does Junxion help with housing and travel logistics?

Yes! You can take the housing stipend and find your own place. A lot of travelers prefer that, or we can help coordinate housing for you. Either way, your employee resources page has tools and info to make the transition smooth. And your recruiter is always available if you hit a snag.
